Socketing a legendary gem into gear you are currently wearing allows you to level up that gem when you run G-rifts. The best solution I can think of is to treat legendary gems the same way paragon levels are treated, each class gets a copy of all legendary gems you have been lucky to get. On the other, the whole need for unsocket-re-socket across alts is extremely tedious, not to mention the likely expensive gold cost. On one hand, it would be good to share the gem between alts since you would only need to upgrade one particular gem instead of multiple gems across different alts.
Unfortunately, that would mean I would have to share this gem between alts (log on character with the gem->unsocket->stash->log on alt->resocket each time I switch).
